Quordle today - hints and answers for Saturday July 1 (game #523)

It's time for your daily dose of Quordle hints, plus the answers for both the main game and the Daily Sequence spin off.  Quordle is the only one of the many Wordle clones that I'm still playing now, around 18 months after the daily-word-game craze hit the internet, and with good reason: it's good fun, but also difficult. What's more, its makers (now the online dictionary Merriam-Webster) are also keeping it fresh in the form of a new variant called the Daily Sequence, which sees you complete four puzzles consecutively, rather than concurrently.  But Quordle is tough, so if you already find yourself searching for Wordle hints , you'll probably need some for this game too.  I'm a Quordle and Wordle fanatic who's been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Quordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Read on for my Quordle hints to game #523 and the answers to the main game and Daily Sequence.  SPOILER WARNING: Information ...

ChatGPT is now a brilliant tool for winding up telemarketers and scammers

If there’s one thing most people on the internet can agree on is we all hate those annoying telemarketing scams calling us at all hours of the day. Software developer Roger Anderson decided to fight fire with fire as he recently equipped his robotic voice service with OpenAI’s GPT-4 large language model to fool them into wasting time. And the best part is you can get in on it.  Anderson’s service is called Jolly Roger Telephone which sells AI personalities to engage in ridiculous conversations with scammers. A recent Wall Street Journal report details one of these engagements where a telemarketer claiming to be from Bank of America called a potential mark only to be answered by Whitey Whitebeard, one of the AIs. Whitey, as a character, has a habit of speaking in circles. The AI was so effective at its job the scammer eventually hung up out of sheer exhaustion about six minutes into the call.  How it all works The Wall Street Journal states Jolly Roger Telephone has been...

A free update to WiiMs cheap wireless high-res music streamer adds a great feature found on expensive streamers

At just $149 (£149 / around AU$225) the WiiM Pro is an inexpensive music streamer that packs the kind of feature set you’d expect to see on streamers priced much higher. That fact alone makes it an incredible value, but the company has just announced that the WiiM Pro has received Roon Ready certification – a feature typically found on the kind of high-end audio components with stratospheric pricing. In our WiiM Pro review , we found it to be an excellent option for adding not just high-res streaming capability to an existing speaker system, but also for wireless multi-room streaming capability. Same as with a Sonos setup, this lets you listen to tracks from the best music streaming services on a single system, or play them across multiple systems with everything managed by an easy to use control app. Roon's extensive metadata makes listening to music a multi-media experience (Image credit: Roon Labs) What Roon Ready certification adds to the mix is the ability to use ...

WhatsApp just made transferring chat history so easy but there may be one big limit

WhatsApp is making it easier to transfer chat logs from your old phone to a new one just by scanning a QR code. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the initial announcement on his Instagram channel where he states this method lets you move your data privately without ever having to leave your devices.” Looking at the video he posted , you first open up the QR code on the older device, then scan said code on the newer phone. Give it about 10 seconds to finish up and you’re done. Other reports state the Chat Transfer tool can be found under the Chats section in the Settings menu. 📱📲 Now you can transfer your full chat history seamlessly, quickly and securely across the same operating systems without ever having to leave the app. Out today 👀 pic.twitter.com/UqNpyw8bCC June 30, 2023 See more Compared to the old method of having to back up your history on either Google Drive or iCloud, this is a lot more straightforward. You’re effectively cutting out the middleman plus you don’t h...

We found your AMD mid-range CPU but you better act fast

Micro Center announced that it would be launching the limited edition AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D CPU on July 7th, 2023 for $229. But here’s the kicker: it will release exclusively in its stores. AMD and Micro Center struck a deal that ensured the retailer will have sole distribution of the mid-range processor until supplies run out. The Ryzen 5 5600X3D seems to be a solid gaming card, with six cores and 12 threads, 96MB of total L3 cache that comes with 3D V-Cache tech for boosting gaming performance and works with AM4 platforms that support DDR4 memory. Due to its more affordable price, it’s ideal for budget gaming machines as it offers quite a bit of bang for its buck. Once it releases, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D could even be one of the best gaming CPUs on the market. And, even better for AMD, it most likely will serve as a direct competitor to Intel’s Core i5-13400 processors, which have been holding down the mid-range market. But Team Red’s latest offering has a similar MSRP but with strong...

Quordle today - hints and answers for Friday June 30 (game #522)

Sony just gave the worlds best vlogging camera two big free upgrades

In our full Sony ZV-E1 review , we described the flagship full-frame mirrorless model as ‘the most capable vlogging camera’ available and it’s in our best vlogging camera guide. Now, via a free upgrade, it just got even better.  Sony has rolled out a significant upgrade – it’s not a firmware update but an upgrade license – that simply adds 4K / 120 video (Long GOP compression), and 1080 / 240 video to the camera's S&Q (slow motion / quick motion) mode.  The 1080 / 240 addition is a 10x slow motion video effect and will provide greater versatility in post for creative speed ramping effects, and slowing down fast-paced action where it's otherwise hard to take in the details.  The ZV-E1 was already the most powerful vlogging camera available that is a trailblazer in how AI is transforming how our cameras work , with auto-tracking features that make life easier for modest film crews.  It is also the cheapest way to get the stellar 4K sensor that is found in the...

New Safari 17 preview lets you try out the browser before it hits macOS Sonoma

Apple is giving more people the opportunity to try out Safari 17 before it launches on macOS Sonoma as it has recently released Safari Technology Preview 173. Up to this point, the only way people could use the revamped Safari was to install the Sonoma beta onto their Mac. With this preview, Ventura users can now see what all the fuss is about without having to commit to downloading the beta. There are, however, restrictions. Safari 17 on Ventura excludes some of the more impactful changes in the update leaving the browser with mostly developer tools. The preview introduces Live Text support to recognize vertical text in images and videos. A tweaked Responsive Design Mode will further enhance the responsiveness of a webpage. Then there’s the new Feature Flags section offering easier access to experimental features from Apple. It appears Safari 17 on Ventura is not the most recent build of the updated browser, which is one reason why users on that system won’t get all of the bell...

Modders have struck again making an Asus ROG Ally with 4TB of storage

The Asus ROG Ally has only been out since earlier this June 2023, and already the modding community has figured out how to install 4TB of M.2 2280 SSD storage. Normally the Asus ROG Ally comes with 512GB of storage, with a 256 GB version coming soon. And as impressive as fitting that much in a small package is, it’s not nearly enough for many modern PC games, with some requiring 100 GB or more. Some Redditors have taken matters into their own hands and decided to figure out how to fit in even more storage. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Reddit) Image 2 of 2 (Image credit: Reddit) According to these intrepid modders, and reported by VideoGameZ , the ROG Ally can in fact fit a standard M.2 2280 storage but you need to remove part of the chassis to do so. As you may have guessed, this is an irreversible change that will definitely void your warranty, something important to consider since currently every single one of these portables is covered by it. But if you d...

You can get a Motorola Razr Plus 2023 for $150 off on Prime Day if Amazon picks you

If you read our Motorola Razr Plus 2023 review and decided you must have one, Amazon is giving you a chance at a significant discount on its next Prime Day. You need to request an invite on the Motorola Razr Plus product page , and then it will pick a few eligible customers to buy a Razr for only $849.99 instead of the normal $999.99 list price. Amazon Prime Day has been announced for July 11, 2023.  That’s a fantastic deal, and if the Razr Plus 2023 is on your shopping list you should jump at it. In our review, we noted that the price is admittedly high for this phone, which uses the same Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 platform as its predecessor, the Motorola Razr 2022 which was never sold in the US. It's a hot phone, you gotta admit (Image credit: Future / Philip Berne) With the newer phone, you get a much larger cover display, and that upgrade justifies keeping the same price. The huge 3.6-inch screen is the biggest on any current flip-style foldable phone, and it offers...

Microsoft planned to acquire Square Enix in ominously titled "Project Phoenix"

Confidential documents revealed that Microsoft had plans to acquire Square Enix as part of a broader corporate acquisition strategy. Revealed as part of the ongoing legal battle surrounding Microsoft's proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard , Microsoft sought to acquire the veteran RPG creator in order to support "future mobile-exclusive Game Pass offerings" ( via The Verge ).  These plans were given the foreboding title "Project Phoenix" and were also centered around leveraging ownership of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts to grow Xbox's Japanese audience as well as to capitalize on Square Enix's experience in creating mobile games .  This is the latest in a string of revelations that have come to light in the wake of the US Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) court case against Microsoft . Many confidential documents have come to light, including internal correspondence planning for the acquisition of a range of other studios ,...

Mozilla wants Pocket users to switch to Firefox accounts which may not be a bad thing

For years Pocket users have been able to get away with not having a Mozilla Firefox account despite the service being on its browser, but they'll soon have to make the switch. Starting on July 11, 2023, all Pocket users will be prompted to create a Mozilla Firefox account, and it will become mandatory by August 15, 2023. But according to the official blog post , other than changing how you log in, this will not have any effect on your saved items. Also, if you’re a Pocket Premium subscriber, your subscription will not be affected by this move. (Image credit: Mozilla) Mozilla stated that this move is to ensure that all users will have Mozilla’s security benefits like two-factor authentication and Mozilla’s privacy policy. And if you log in using your Apple ID or Google login, then not only will you receive these benefits but your account will also be auto-migrated on July 11. Mozilla’s apps will also be unaffected by the switch, not to mention Pocket will continue to be...

These 'air conduction' earbuds let you hear the music and the world around you

Audio brand Shokz is best known for its bone-conduction headphones but for its new OpenFit wireless earbuds, the company is doing something different: air conduction. One of the problems with bone-conduction headphones is the audio they output isn’t as good quality as a traditional pair of headphones. The sound reproduction isn’t quite the same. Seemingly because of this discrepancy, Shokz is equipping the OpenFit with DirectPitch, a feature that will gauge both the “distance and angle between” the earbuds and a person’s ear in order to deliver high-quality audio. It's the air being vibrated; not the inner ear. The company claims the tech introduces a sound “that perfectly balances bold highs, clear mids, and [a] surging bass". Additionally, Shokz is throwing in some of its proprietary tech to improve the output even more. You have the OpenBass algorithm to direct “low-frequency vibrations” into the ear canal for better bass, and Dynamic Range Control for automatically ad...

Microsoft Launcher's latest update is causing issues especially for these users

Microsoft Launcher’s latest June update has been giving users plenty of trouble, especially if they happen to be using a Surface Duo. The update, released on June 27, 2023, has already amassed plenty of posts from Reddit and Twitter users about their devices not working properly with Microsoft Launcher. Though it’s a wide range of devices having issues, the Surface Duo seems to be the most common which, according to Windows Central , seems to be tied to a recent system update. (Image credit: Reddit user /yugabe) Right now, the only real solution has been to reset the launcher when prompted by the error message, though some users are apparently reporting that doesn’t work either. This could especially be a problem for Surface Duo as it’s that device’s only launcher, because if resetting doesn’t work then you might have to resort to customizing settings again. Other phone users can simply switch launchers when the error pops up, however, saving a bit of a headache. Update: A...

Amazon Prime Day electric toothbrush deals: What to buy in 2023

Amazon Prime Day is a great opportunity to snag yourself a new electric toothbrush. These high-powered devices can clean away more plaque than a manual toothbrush can. Although the actual sales event hasn't started yet, it's a good chance to get clued up on what to buy, when the sales begin, and how to get the best deals.  When you're browsing the best electric toothbrushes online, it can be difficult to tell what's truly good value: there's just so much jargon around toothbrushes, complicating a seemingly very simple action, which can make it difficult to identify the really good deals. Many toothbrushes also seem almost artificially inflated in price.  So which of the Amazon Prime Day deals are really any good? Fortunately, we've written enough about electric toothbrushes to really know our stuff, and we're on hand to tell you when the deals are happening, how to spot a good value discount, and we've got some examples of last year's discounts....

AWS AppFabric wants to make pulling your SaaS apps together much easier

Amazon Web Services ( AWS ) has unveiled a new, no-code tool that it hopes will bring together all of your different software-as-a-service products together in one place, with added security and management benefits. The new AppFabric tool lives inside the AWS Management Console, where IT and security teams can review a variety of important information in one central location. At the same time, AWS also uncovered some of its generative AI plans for AppFabric, which are set to arrive in a future release. AWS AppFabric AWS claims some companies are subscribing to more than 100 pieces of software in an effort to give their workers the right tools.  From launch, the company has confirmed that some of the most popular applications will be supported, including Asana , Dropbox , Google Workspace , Microsoft 365 , Slack , and Zoom .
