Nvidia is powering a mega Tesla supercomputer powered by 10,000 H100 GPUs

Tesla has revealed its investment into a massive compute cluster comprising 10,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs specifically designed to power AI workloads. The system, which went online this week, is designed to process the mountains of data its fleet of vehicles collect with a view to accelerating the development of fully self-driving vehicles , according to its leader of AI infrastructure, Tim Zaman . Tesla has been striving for years to reach the point at which its vehicles can be considered entirely autonomous and has invested more than a billion dollars into adopting the infrastructure to make this possible. Tesla supercomputer In July 2023, CEO Elon Musk revealed the firm would invest $1 billion into building out its Dojo supercomputer over the next year. Dojo , which is based on Tesla’s own tech, began with the D1 chip, fitted with 354 custom CPU cores. Each training tile module comprises 25 D1 chips, with the base Dojo V1 configuration including 53,100 D1 cores in total. The firm ...

Lenovo Legion Go is the powerhouse the handheld gaming market was missing

First it was the Steam Deck then we had the Asus ROG Ally , and now Lenovo is jumping into the fray as the company has officially revealed its new handheld gaming device – the Legion Go. Arguably the most eye-catching aspect out of everything the Lenovo Legion Go has to offer are the detachable TrueStrike controllers. Similar to the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, they feature two joysticks, a directional pad, and a variety of face buttons. Fairly standard stuff.  But that’s where the similarities end because these TrueStrike controllers are capable of so much more. In total, you have 10 – yes, 10 – mappable shoulder buttons: two triggers, two bumpers, four in the back (two on each controller), plus an extra pair of inputs on the edges.  (Image credit: Lenovo) If that wasn’t enough, the right controller has a track pad on the front for controlling an on-screen cursor with a mouse wheel on the back for scrolling. On the bottom of the controller is an optical “eye”. Whe...

Quordle today - hints and answers for Friday, September 1 (game #585)

It's time for your daily dose of Quordle hints, plus the answers for both the main game and the Daily Sequence spin off.  Quordle is the only one of the many Wordle clones that I'm still playing now, around 18 months after the daily-word-game craze hit the internet, and with good reason: it's good fun, but also difficult. What's more, its makers (now the online dictionary Merriam-Webster) are also keeping it fresh in the form of a new variant called the Daily Sequence, which sees you complete four puzzles consecutively, rather than concurrently.  But Quordle is tough, so if you already find yourself searching for Wordle hints , you'll probably need some for this game too.  I'm a Quordle and Wordle fanatic who's been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Quordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Read on for my Quordle hints to game #585 and the answers to the main game and Daily Sequence.  SPOILER WARNING: Information ...

Revolution Software is using their own AI technology to remake Broken Sword

TechRadar Gaming is reporting live from Gamescom 2023 on the latest and greatest developments in gaming and hardware. Revolution Software announced at Gamescom 2023 that Broken Sword would be coming back, with Broken Sword - The Shadow of the Templars getting a full remake while a sixth title in the series is coming in the future too, under the title Broken Sword - Parzival’s Stone .  Speaking to TRG ahead of the announcement, Cecil talked about the studio’s plans for a Broken Sword remake and the sixth title in the series. Cecil is a larger-than-life character, who is able to talk about the studio’s plans with enthusiasm. It even carries a pocketful of stones to illustrate the plans for Parzival’s Stone , but he also talks about how Broken Sword - The Shadow of the Templars would be using AI to upscale.  Cecil wasn’t shy about the studio’s use of AI technology, but he gave a fairly robust explanation of why the game was using it. The AI technology will be used to upda...

Jitsi Meet ditches anonymity—here's why

A popular secure video-conferencing app has just ditched the main feature making it for a long time the go-to for activists, journalists, and whoever looking for extra privacy: its users' anonymity. Completely free to use, Jitsi Meet is an encrypted and open-source platform available for both web and mobile. Jitsi has increasingly become a privacy-first alternative to Zoom , Google Meet , or Microsoft Teams for allowing people to use the service without an account. Until now, at least. From August 24, 2023, users need to use a Gmail, Facebook, or GitHub account to create a meeting room on meet.jit.si. And, while the new authentication requirement isn't extended to the invitees, people are now worried about how this change will affect Jitsi's overall level of privacy and security. Jitsi Meet's new authentication requirements "When we started the service back in 2013, our goal was to offer a meeting experience with as little friction and as much privacy as po...

France plans to boost internet censorship to combat online fraud

DNS providers and web browsers could be forced to block websites flagged by authorities in France under a new proposed law. Currently pushed through parliament, the so-called SREN Bill comes as a way to regulate online content and tackle issues like digital fraud, online harassment, and minors' access to pornography. Despite being motivated by legitimate concerns, experts deemed the Bill as a "dangerous slippery slope." Granting the French government greater website blocking powers will create further censorship technical capabilities, they warn, while setting up a worrying precedent that threatens the open internet.  France's SREN Bill "In a well-intentioned yet dangerous move to fight online fraud, France is on the verge of forcing browsers to create a dystopian technical capability," wrote Mozilla, the company behind Firefox , in a blog post . France's worrying bills It isn't the first time France made headlines in recent months for pro...

Chromebook owners can try out GeForce Now for free – but there’s a catch

Beginning today, Google is offering Chromebook owners a free, three-month subscription to Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service. For those who may be unfamiliar, GeForce Now gives people access to a powerful gaming rig on Nvidia’s servers. That way, you can play popular titles with high definition graphics even if your computer doesn’t have the greatest hardware. This new deal is specifically for a subscription to GeForce Now Priority which is the mid-range tier of the service. It gives access to games running up to 1080p resolution at 60FPS, six-hour session lengths, and enables RTX ON for optimal graphic fidelity.  Also, if you own a specific Cloud Gaming Chromebook model, that free subscription gets upgraded to GeForce Now Ultimate – the highest tier. The third plan offers games running up to 4K resolution at 120FPS, eight-hour sessions, plus “exclusive access to RTX 4080 Servers.” A full list of supporting models can be found on Google’s website . They include the Ac...

DJI Mini 4 Pro: leaks, release date and price

When it arrived in May 2023 the DJI Mini 3 Pro impressed us so much, we ranked it as the best compact drone for most people. It earned this accolade thanks to its compact size, intelligent obstacle avoidance and the low-light performance of its 4K camera. Its tiny dimensions saw it slot neatly into the sub-250g drone category, meaning it could be flown almost anywhere without restriction. Now it looks like DJI is preparing to announce a successor, likely called the Mini 4 Pro. The timing couldn’t be better from DJI, since new US legislation coming into effect on September 16 requires drones weighing more than 250g to constantly broadcast the location of both the pilot and the aircraft itself. If the successor to the Mini 3 Pro remains below that crucial 250g limit, then owners will be free to fly their drone without the need for registration or identification. Launching the Mini 4 Pro at the end of September , as was recently suggested, would be perfect timing from DJI. Updates ...

You may have missed JLab’s teeny tiny JBuds Mini but they’re set to see a big launch

When it comes to the best true wireless earbuds , size matters – and big isn't necessarily better. Larger earbuds can be hard to fit, if you have smaller ears. Even if like me you have a head like a hippo's, the combination of large size and weight in some big earbuds can be wearing over longer periods.  So we're quite taken with the new JLab JBuds Mini, which are set to launch on September 1. They're smaller than many car key fobs in their case and they're absolutely tiny: each little bud weighs just 3.3g. We've already tried these buds, because our very own Matt Bolton got to play with a pair at CES earlier this year. He didn't get the chance to hear them, but he did get to experience their comfort. Matt has also tested their stablemates, the JLab Go Air Pop , which we think are the  best budget wireless earbuds in their price bracket and are essentially the same earbuds but larger – the JBuds Mini is 30% smaller.  The Air Pop have the same sized dri...

New Samsung Food app can help you master the art of cooking right at home

Samsung is stepping into the kitchen as it launches its new “AI-powered food and recipe platform” – the aptly named Samsung Food.  The app isn’t completely new as it draws much of its information from the “extensive database of Whisk, a smart food [company]” bought by Samsung NEXT back in 2019 . Utilizing Whisk’s Food AI tech, however, Samsung Food acts as a personal assistant of sorts by helping people find interesting recipes.  According to the official announcement , the software adapts to users in order to "create tailored meal plans" that meet an individual's dietary and nutritional needs. It will also provide step-by-step guides on how to cook a dish if you're new to cooking.  As you can see in the trailer above, there is more to the app than simply being a cookbook on a smartphone. Once you save a dish to your personal “recipe box”, Samsung Food will analyze the entry then provide a shopping list of the ingredients that you need make it. The company clai...

Ransomware hackers target major Citrix NetScaler flaw

Cybersecurity researchers from Sophos have discovered a new hacking campaign in which the threat actors leveraged a known vulnerability to conduct domain-wide attacks.  According to the researchers’ report , a group called 'STAC4663' managed to exploit CVE-2023-3519 to infiltrate vulnerable systems and deploy all sorts of malicious software. The exploit is a remote code execution vulnerability discovered earlier this summer in Citrix NetScaler systems.  Citrix released a patch for the flaw in mid-July this year however Sophos' report has found not all organizations have applied the patch, leaving their systems vulnerable to malicious third-party penetration.  Links to FIN8 Now, Sophos is warning that simply patching the endpoints will not suffice - organizations will also need to thoroughly inspect their networks and endpoints for signs of potential compromise. To do that, businesses should analyze historical data and look for identified Indicators of Compromise (IoC...

Google wants to use generative AI to boost its security tools

Google is integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) into a couple of its security products, to give the tools a boost and make them easier to use.  At its recent Google Cloud Next 23 event, the company announced its Duet AI will make its way to Mandiant Threat Intelligence, Chronicle Security Operations, and Security Command Center. Google’s head of UX for cloud security, Steph Hay, explained that the goal was to lower the burden on IT teams, minimize threats, and lower the barrier to entry into the cybersecurity space. Improving security posture “We’re really trying to supercharge security with generative AI to mitigate threats, and in particular prevent downstream impacts that our practitioners face today, to reduce the toil that the security teams deal with having to manage a growing attack surface, and really bridge the cyber talent gap,” Hay said. “AI is enabling security teams to improve their security posture by generating AI summaries to describe threats, by...

Meta Quest 3 firmware leak reveals big depth mapping upgrade

All the signs are that Meta is going to fully unveil the Meta Quest 3 , and give us an on sale date, at its special event on September 27. Until then, we're learning more about the device through leaks – such as the latest one that reveals its depth mapping capabilities. In a clip dug out of the Meta Quest 3 firmware and posted to Reddit (via user Samulia and UploadVR ), we see a short animation visualizing how the depth mapping is going to work. In short, it looks pretty advanced, and way ahead of the Oculus Quest 2. We see a detailed mesh covering all of the objects in the room, and there seems to be some kind of object identification going on here as well – the couch is labeled with a couch icon, for example, so the Meta Quest 3 clearly knows what it is. The player avatar is then shown chasing a digital character around the room, as it jumps on and behind furniture. This is an example of mixed reality occlusion, where digital elements appear to be in the same world as phys...

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus could finally get an upgrade I’ve been waiting for

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has been tipped to get a display upgrade to bring back a WQHD screen for non-Ultra Galaxy phones.  This comes via reliable tipster Ice Universe , who tweeted that the Galaxy S24 Plus will sport a flat screen with a WQHD display (ie. a 1440p resolution spread across a wide aspect ratio). The tipster also noted that the Plus model will have slim bezels, measuring 2.5mm on the sides and 1mm for the middle frame; going by the rumors so far, these bezels could be slimmer than those on the Galaxy S24 Ultra .  The first version of the Samsung Galaxy S24+ rendering, this time the S24+, the four sides including the middle frame are 2.5mm (S24 Ultra 3.4mm), the bezel part of the screen is about 1.5mm, and the middle frame is about 1.0mm. The rendering is as follows. The key is the top… pic.twitter.com/LhJesJIa74 August 29, 2023 See more Ice Universe also tipped a 195g weight for the Galaxy S24 Plus, saying it’ll be 7.7mm thick. For comparison, the ...
